There are so many little jobs you need to look at as winter approaches. Now that the freezing weather can appear any night, it’s definitely best to get the grubby jobs out of the way and anything that requires tools or equipment are easier managed in less cold/wet weather. Take the guttering for example. Some folk ae able to climb ladders and get all the clogging leaves and remains of birds nests out before they clog up the downpipes, causing a a blockage which can be very difficult to manage. In the winter it’s just as important to have water butts attached to the downwards pipes. The more full they are during the cold months, the less likely the water within is likely to freeze. Although this is a good idea, many folk opt to hve their downpipes cleaned professionally if they are unable or unwilling to use a very long ladder and masses of equipment. It can be pricey but it is such an important task that the financial side is worth every penny.
Another job for the autumn is to ensure pathways and driveways are clear of leaves and slimey residues. Also bleaching down patio areas is a good idea to stop mould taking over. It can be very slippery when the paving slabs have mossy residue on them. Making sure there are adequate lights outside at night is important too. There are good solar powered schemes which work from storing up good daylight for a few hours. Its amazing the power of these bollards or globes you can get from any of the large out of town hyper markets. They have solar or wired in motion sensors too. Always useful.
