Every few years there seems to be an upsurge in house building and with it, a massive rise in the aount of tv and social media advertising. This last few weeks has seen an incredible campaign. Strangely though, the ads on the major video media that I follow have all been long winded, very attractive showy affairs but without mentioning where the houses are being built. I found it rather strange to be enticed to watch the ‘sales lady’, almost seeing her from the show house on site, enter the front door of the show house and take us for a most enthusiatic waltz around the newly finished property.
It used to be great fun being able to ask to view such new show houses – I’m sure the agents suspected that 90 percent of viewings were just for entertainment on a dull Sunday. But of course, there would always be the one or two serious buyers that made the exercise worthwhile. The joy of being able to wander around a brand new, squeaky clean property with that fabulous ‘brand new smell’. Nothing beats that, it inspires families to want to move on up from their current place. That’s missing from the screen ad, of course. However, the very attractive way the agents display the property is quite important now. There are companies that stage the design of show houses, of course, but the adverts are designed to draw us in and want that for ourselves. Yes. There is something to be said for seeing the new decorating colour schemes or latest designs in versatile living – there in front of us on the screen. If only they’d tell us where the houses were, then we might go that step further and make an appointment to see them, and buy!
